It was a very strange time

This site is a small record of Australia’s “freedom movement”, which emerged in response to Covid-19 lockdowns and vaccine mandates. It covers the rallies, protests and confrontations of 2020 and 2021, followed by the Convoy to Canberra, Camp Epic and Mission to Melbourne movements of 2022. It also includes the smaller groups, major personalities, internal conflicts and assorted side plots that formed around them.

Much of the footage comes from the participants themselves: livestreams, Zoom meetings and public group chats. The archive also includes videos made by a group of people who met online, created Twitch channels and parody videos, and spent years watching, laughing at and mocking the grifters, sovereign citizens and conspiracy podcasters involved.

The material is organised around events, people and recurring themes, so you can follow the larger story or disappear into individual rabbit holes. Some entries are funny, some confronting, and many make more sense with the benefit of hindsight.
